June 7, 2013

Mario, my little fatty lizard, has been growing steadily these past few months and is happy and healthy.  I recently switched from feeding her crickets to a diet of dubia cockroaches and the occasional superworm or two.  She has been enjoying regular bath time (so helpful when she's shedding and grumpy!) and the everyday adventure around the apartment. She is litter trained and goes on a regular schedule most of the time so I hardly have to watch her when she's out.  Mario will just pitter-patter around like she owns the place.  Often if I havn't seen her for a while she will have fallen asleep in a warm corner somewhere - usually behind or under a pile of blankets or behind a shoe.  One time I found her curled up under the cables behind our TV! She just loves to feel cozy.

Mario is currently shedding on her back and has been refusing to eat anything but superworms.  I have found that as frustrating as it is having a picky lizard she usually starts eating without a problem once she has finished shedding.  It's hard not to worry about her, but she knows best.  I still offer her veggies every day at the same time and a cockroach or two just in case. She is also quite fond of bananas and her favorite is green beans.  I think she likes that she can crunch them!

At a solid 19 inches long from nose to tail, Mario is pretty big.  She is approaching 1 year next month and is still growing.  Last time I weighed her (about 2 weeks ago) she was just over 450g and I'm going to weigh her again tomorrow.  Love how cuddly she is!!!
